The Commission on Population and Development or POPCOM Caraga presented the key strategies under its Adolescent Health and Development Program that will enable young individuals, especially those who are minors, with age-appropriate and life skills-based information on their sexual and reproductive health to prevent early pregnancies and adolescent mothers or parents to prevent repeated and unplanned pregnancies.

In the recently concluded 1st Semester Joint Virtual Meeting of Regional Inter-agency Committee on Youth Development and Philippine Youth Development Regional Task Force organized by the National Youth Commission-Mindanao, POPCOM explained that the AHD program strategies, as one of the major components of the Philippine Population Management Program, also aim at helping the young individuals to realize their full potential and total wellbeing and become responsible citizens in their respective community.

POPCOM is providing logistical and financial support to regional and local partners in conducting various demand generation strategies; and the establishment and strengthening of community and school-based teen centers and functional information and service delivery network.

Earlier, POPCOM Caraga Regional Director Alexander A. Makinano disclosed that POPCOM and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, recently launched the Social Protection Program for Teen Mothers and their Children. Through a partnership agreement, the two agencies pledged to develop a data-sharing agreement (DSA) to identify teenage mothers and their children nationwide to implement a social amelioration program in support of young mothers belonging to the lowest socioeconomic bracket and among others. 

During the virtual meeting, POPCOM Caraga presented as well their other AHD key strategies like the AHD School-On-Air; AHD program promotion through broadcast infomercials.
