The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) Caraga will level up its campaign this August for well-planned families through the modern family planning commodities, and services.
POPCOM and Department of Health issued the theme for this year’s Family Planning Month Celebration, “Stay safe and healthy, mag FP”. The celebration in Caraga Region is a collaborative undertaking among POPCOM, DOH, and other relevant partners such as DKT, SIKAP, Rural Health Units, and Local Government Units.
POPCOM Caraga Regional Director Alexander A. Makinano said that they will continue their information drive to communities’ especially remote rural areas who are considered to be unknowing with the family planning programs of the Commission especially those areas with a high percentage of women wanting to limit or space births but are not using any modern Family Planning methods.
RD Makinano also highlights the current situation of women and shared insights on the domestic issues affecting the decision of women on the number, size, and spacing of children, wherein husbands’ fertility preference usually prevail over the decision of the wife.
It can be recalled that during the press conference for World Population Day, POPCOM Undersecretary Dr. Juan Antonio A. Perez emphasized the importance of the full provision of sexual and reproductive health information and services to women and girls, especially during this pandemic.
POPCOM will highlight the event though its various online programs centering the people of Caraga and the rest of the country.
Under its program, POPCOM is providing free commodities and services to interested couples and individuals. Couples and individuals can choose from any of the modern artificial and natural methods available in all Rural Health Units (RHU), Main Health Centers (MHC) and Barangay Health Stations (BHS).
Modern artificial methods include pills, injectables, implant, Intrauterine Device (IUD) and ligations for women; and condoms and vasectomy for men.
Natural methods are also available as these are scientifically proven and safer ranging from Basal Body Temperature (BBT), Sympto-Thermal Method (STM), Cervical Mucus Method (CMM), Standard Days Method (SDM), Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM).
