Abilan, Buenavista – Empowering Filipino families and communities is one top priority of the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM), as emphasized by the recently-appointed Undersecretary for the Population and Development, Juan Antonio A. Perez III, during his official visit in the region to discuss with the partners on the implementation of Executive Order No. 71 which moved POPCOM to the National Economic and Development Authority from the Department of Health.

With these significant changes and development, Usec. Perez who remained as its Executive Director, warranted that POPCOM’s mandate expanded through the said EO 71. “We, in POPCOM, will double our efforts and commitment in the implementation of the Philippine Population Management Program as our commitment in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022.” Usec. Perez underscored.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed the EO on December 13, 2018 which tasked POPCOM to strengthen the integration of population and development in increasing the country’s potential economic growth. The order renamed the agency to CPD but the national leadership opted to retain POPCOM as its popular name.

On their part, Regional Director of Center for Health and Development – DOH Caraga, Dr. Jose R. Llacuna, Jr. and NEDA Caraga Director Atty. Bonifacio G. Uy, articulated their full support to POPCOM and showed positive response to this development. Both officials also ensured everyone that together with other concerned government agencies, POPCOM, DOH and NEDA will work hand in hand in the continuing implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) Law, especially at the local level.

In collaboration with partners, POPCOM Caraga continuously and effectively implementing strategies and activities that would benefit individuals and families in the community. These major strategies also address the key population issues in the country towards achieving its overall goal of “Matatag, Maginhawa, at Planadong Pamilyang Pilipino.”
