Abilan, Buenavista –  The celebration of International Men’s Day  (IMD)  highlighted  male as positive role models and celebrated their achievements and contributions in particular to the community, family  and child care.

“Positive Role Models” is this year’s theme which featured also men and boy’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality.

The Commission on Population spearheads the celebration of International Men’s Day (IMD) here in the region, as celebrated worldwide every 19th of November.

International Men’s Day is simultaneously celebrated in different areas within the region as spearheaded by the City/Provincial Population Offices, with various activities conducted and services offered for men and husbands from various sectors in the community.

It can be recalled that the celebration of International Men’s Day in the region commenced after the issuance of a Regional Population Executive Board Resolution No. 3, and Regional Development Council Resolution No. 6, all series of 2014.

In his message, during one of the activities for the celebration, POPCOM Regional Director Alexander A. Makinano pointed out that men play an important role to promote the welfare of his family through family planning, and the importance of communicating with his partner on fertility matters.

Furthermore, RD Makinano underscored that men can be role models to other males, especially those who have negative preconceptions about family planning, hence they can become a living testimony in properly planning their families through modern and scientific family planning methods.
