The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) – Caraga highlighted the necessity of population data in coming out appropriatre policies and programs of the government mainly addressing concerns of the people.

In the Regional Data Dissemination Forum on Population Counts conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) last July 21, 2021 in a hybrid activity, it was learned that the population of the country hit a total of 109,035,343 as of May 1, 2020, under the proclamation no. 1179, series of 2021, in which Caraga has a 2,804,788 population in 2020. It also discussed the significance of population data for research and development, and the vital role of population data for planning and decision making.

POPCOM Caraga Director Alexander A. Makinano, as one of the key speakers, emphasized the utilization of evidence-based decision making in translating population data into policies and programs. The decisions based on evidence lead to better health outcomes. Every stakeholder is a partner in progress and has a role in monitoring and evaluation.

The purpose of monitoring and evaluation is not only to produce more information but also to inform action. The information and data gathered can be used to strengthen programs and improve results. It ensures accountability and reporting. It improves the quality of services provided, as well as contributes to local/national/global lessons learned, to name a few.
