Abilan, Buenavista – The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) Caraga honored structures and individuals who excelled in the implementation and promotion of the population management program and strategies to their respective areas, after a thorough evaluation of the submitted documents and validation by the regional office’s screening committee.
POPCOM emphasized that local government units remain the locus of implementation for the PPMP, as such, these local population offices have been at the forefront of program implementation and have significant milestones in attaining the program objectives.
As a recipient of the Kaunlarang Pantao Award (Rafael M. Salas Population and Development Award), city category, the City Population Office of Bayugan has shown significant contributions in achieving the primary thrusts of the country’s population program and one of these is the issuance of Resolution No. 108 Series of 2017, “Strengthening the Service Delivery Network”, and a signed Partnership Agreement between LGU Bayugan and the different sector to strengthen functional service delivery network on Family Planning; Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health and Nutrition; Adolescent and Youth; and Population Integration through Public and Private Partnership.
On the other hand, as regional KP awardee for provincial category, Dinagat Islands has its best practices, namely: Creation and Celebration of International Men’s Day; Institutionalizing the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE)/ Lesbian, Gay, BiSexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ); and the Promotion of Population-Health-Environment (PHE) through “Days for Girls”.

However, for provincial category, only Dinagat Islands emerged as awardee who have met the criteria set by the Commission.

Director Alexander A. Makinano of POPCOM Caraga accentuated the significance of the event, publicly recognizing institutions and individuals on their excellence, dedication and determination in implementing the program for this will motivate them to pursue and continuously intensify the implementation and promotion of the PPMP at the local level.
